Talent Identification and Player Development
Scottish Golf North has a well-established programme of talent identification and player development, ranging from early starters to elite players.
Each year clubs in the area are asked to nominate boys and girls for inclusion in the player development programme. As well as that request, Executive members and squad professional coaches also keep a lookout for players.

A key characteristic that is used in identification is an enthusiasm for playing golf.
The area covered by SGN is vast and every effort is made to identify players from across its geography. For young people who are remotely located, the advent of coaching via Information Technology has improved access and that can be combined with occasional face to face sessions as the drive to encourage as many young people as possible to play the game.
Once identified, players are recruited into a squad of young people who are coached by one of the SGN’s group of teaching professionals. As a youngster develops, she or he may well progress to a higher level coaching squad which signifies the prospect of representing Scottish Golf North.
To be eligible for the programme you do not need to be a member of a Golf Club. If you would like to be considered contact our secretary at secretary@sg-north.com
